I'd like you to know a little more about me.

My full name is Ann Christine Martha. I have always thought I was special, because I have three first names. Students always ask me about my last name -- Martha.
I believe I am a Martha, because Saint Martha is my ancestor.

I was born in Philadelphia, PA, USA, and I've lived my entire life in this city.   I was educated in the Philadelphia Public Schools.   After completing my bachelor's degree in English and Education, I entered the teaching profession and returned to the Philadelphia School District where I have had a long career as a high school teacher of English and a school librarian.

I share many interests with my students. I also like bicycling, reading good children's books, and eating ice cream! I have placed on this page links to bicycling clubs and to information about where to ride around Philadelphia. I also have a few links to organizations I belong to, and at the bottom of this page I have links to web sites my friends have constructed.

How teachers call the parents of their students at 7 A.M.

What a job!

A teacher's day begins as early as 6 A.M. and lasts until ?  I became a school librarian because I spent too many nights staying awake until 3 A.M.  correcting papers.  The two best things about teaching are July and August!

  1. Franny Sykes Lohr was my best friend.   We went to school together from kindergarten through college.  Fran married her sweetheart Fred and left Philadelphia many years ago.  She has a beautiful family.   Fran's husband Fred was a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War.   His web pages present his diary about his combat experience in Vietnam.  Get a good look at the helicopters.
  2. Dr. Henry Lazarus is a dentist.  He likes to tinker with gadgets and ride bicycles. Henry coordinates the Sunday Morning Breakfast Rides for the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia, and I like those rides.  Henry does such a great job with the Breakfast Ride that Bicycling Magazine has commended it as one of the ten best weekly club rides in the nation.  Henry reviews science fiction books.
  3. Bill Cotton is a bicycle route navigator extraordinaire.  Bill also likes gadgets.  He uses a GPS system and a small hand-held computer on his bike to create a moving map that tells him when and where to turn.
  4. Sandy Pomerantz had worked as a school librarian for many years.  She retired and moved upstate.  Sandy loves to tell very funny stories that make kids roar with laughter.
